Shuffling

Look* what I got for my birthday last Saturday! Thanks, Fiance!

*The photo file is being weird, or maybe it's just Blogger. In any case, visualize a white, 30 GB iPod.

In honor of my iPod, I'm stealing from Sal (who stole from TBFs, and so on...)

Per Sal:
"I crank-up my iPod Shuffle and write the opening lyrics to the first ten morsels of iPod meat that come screaming from the ear buds. You, gentle readers, must correctly guess each song and its artist. And, oh yeah...you are NOT allowed to Google."

Don't get too excited... my bank account's not looking too healthy lately, so there will be no cash prizes, only admiration for your good taste in music.

Just a warning... I haven't had time to organize anything into playlists yet, so these are some RANDOM selections!

1. "Well I hope that I don't fall in love with you" *Note -- the version on my iPod is a cover, so bonus points if you can come up with the band singing the cover. Hint: The band sings another song on this list. (Now I'm making it too easy!)
Winner: Michele. "Closing Time" by Tom Waits, cover by Hootie and the Blowfish. In defense of my inexplicable Hootie devotion (if one can defend a Hootie devotion), I do have the Tom Waits version on the iPod.

2. "I knew a man Bojangles and he'd dance for you" Great song, but too easy! Let's try again...
Winner: 1/2 point to Sal for naming the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, even though he was ignoring the numbers. (And he has two #1s on his list, so there is really no excuse.)

2. "Got no place to go but there's a girl waitin' for me down in Mexico"

3. "Has our conscience shown?/ Has the sweet breeze blown?"

4. "She sits alone by a lamppost/ Trying to find a thought that's escaped her mind"

5. "I bought a toothbrush/ Some toothpaste/ A flannel for my face"
Winner: Sal. "Tempted" by Squeeze. I love this song because it brings to mind the Gap ad from a few years ago with Raoul Bova in broken-in jeans... Lord. Watch it, ladies, trust me.

6. "I pulled into Nashville, Tennessee/ But you wouldn't even come around to see me"

7. "I hate the world today"
Winner: Michele. "Bitch" by Meredith Brooks

8. "I am just a poor boy and my story's seldom told" Wow, that is really random...
Simon and Garfunkel is right... think...

9. "En un día de estos en que suelo pensar/ 'Hoy va a ser el día menos pensado'" Um, good luck with that one! This is actually one of my favorite songs.

10. "Take me back to-a south Tallahassee/ Down cross the bridge to my sweet sassafrassy" (Best listened to in the car, windows down, going fast.)
Winner: Michele. "Last Child" by Aerosmith. Greatest. Song. Ever. Maybe not ever, but it's close.

There you go! Good luck, and take your time, because who knows when I'll wander back to Blogland again. :-)

Oh, let's see.

2. "Mr. Bojangles" by the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band.

3. "Mexico" by James Taylor (just a guess, but I'm counting on a misnumbering by my sister).

5. "Tempted" by Squeeze.

8. "Sounds of Silence" by Simon and Garfunkle.

10. No clue, but I'm happy to see another reference to sassafrass. Even if it's not Bubble Puppy.

Gahhh! I am SO bad at Name that Tune. I only know number 8 isn't "The Sound of Silence". Will have to bail on the rest of them.

But Happy Belated Birthday, Happy iPod (don't you love it?) and Happy, Happy Angie Finally Posts Again!

When are you going on holiday? My brothers girlfriend is eating her way through Spain right now. Maybe you'll run into her.

Wait, wait, wait dear brother of mine. I am not to be blamed for misnumbering! If you look closely there are two number 2's!!!!!

Happy birthday, Ang! I wish I had an iPod.

1. Well, I have a version of this song that is a cover by Marc Cohn. Doesn't Hootie & the Blowfish sing it too?

7. Bitch by Meredith Brooks

10. Last Child by AEROSMITH!!! (Ang, I don't want to get picky here, but these are not actually the first words to this song. "I'm dreaming tonight. I'm leaving back home.") ;)

This is a fun game!

Sal, Bojangles was a giveaway... Your sister is correct (as sisters usually are) -- there are two #2s.

So #3 is not James Taylor.

You are correct on #5, and #8, you have the right band, wrong title.

Thanks, Christina! We are Spain-bound in early November. I got a new suitcase for my birthday from my future inlaws. I'm so excited!

Micheley, I knew I could count on you! I'll give you #1; it's the Hootie & the Blowfish cover. #7 correct, #10 correct, and bonus points about the opening words, mea culpa. I got distracted by the sound effects and bass line and images of Joe Perry dancing through my head.

Michele is winning with 3 points... I don't think I have enough blog readers to play this game, so if no one gets the others in a week, I'll reveal the answers. :)

7 is "The Boxer." Of course, I knew that all along. I just...just...I don't know.

Hello!!! 9 is La Oreja de Van Gogh!! I'm pretty sure it's Rosas, but I don't have the CD with me (I'm currently in Greece). I love them too! I was so lucky because I got to see them in concert in Chile when I was there a few years ago - and I know they were in Chicago last week, so see if you can find them touring - GREAT show.

take care,
Katerina

4. Hootie and the Blowfish, Let her cry.

I was one of the 12 million who got that album for Christmas that year. But I've never listened to it since!

In all my blogging tonight, I realized I never finished this... a true testament to my attention span! Sal, Katerina, Ms. Mac, you are all correct! Katerina, I didn't know anyone would get "Las Rosas"!

Sal edges out Michele with 3 1/2 points!

#2 is "Holiday in Spain" by Counting Crows

#3 is "The World I Know" by Collective Soul

#6 is "Steal My Kisses" by Ben Harper

Thanks for playing along!
